A surprise assembly was organised at Kingsley Junior School to mark the retirement of Junior School Head Teacher Mrs Jose Kay.
There was a musical flavour to the occasion in recognition of Mrs Kay’s love of the performing arts.
When she became Deputy Head Teacher in 1999 Mrs Kay started a junior school orchestra and she went on to introduce the annual musical show after her appointment as Head Teacher two and a half years later. She has also enjoyed performing with the children – accompanying them on piano and playing with the recorder ensemble.
“Over the years I have been so proud at every concert and show put on at Kingsley because of the confidence and progress of all the girls taking part. It has been wonderful to witness the children developing and fulfilling their potential in everything they do,” she says.
Pupils and staff sang, played and danced for Mrs Kay during the emotional assembly at which other staff members Mrs Kate Liverton, Mrs Sam Jones, Mrs Liz Ronchetti, Mrs Penny Rogers and Mrs Laura Jones were also wished a fond farewell.
Mrs Kay, who lives in North Warwickshire, says she will miss “the friendly environment, happy children, enthusiastic staff and supportive parents” at Kingsley School – but not getting up at 5.30am to travel there!
After a few long lie-ins she is planning to spend time touring Europe in a caravan with her husband and dog.
