Enthusiastic young Kingsley cooks took part recently in the school heats of FutureChef 2010, a national competition for pupils aged 12 – 16. The challenge was to cook a hot main course within an hour and to a budget of £4. Food technology teacher Mrs LePoidevin was very pleased with the hard work and high standard achieved by Year 8 girls Madhuri Hickling, Clara Hofstetter, Charlie Evans, Lucy Castle, Jess Cave, Ella Worlidge and Amber Martin.
Charlie Evans was Kingsley’s school heat winner with her Thai green curry, closely followed by Amber Martin, who prepared smoked salmon spaghetti laced in lemon. Charlie went on to represent Kingsley in the local finals, in which participants had to prepare and cook a hot main course and hot or cold dessert for two within a budget of £6.00 and provide a full costing for the meal. Mrs LePoidevin comments: “Well done to Charlie on gaining third place in a very closely contested competition. She did herself and Kingsley proud!”
Charlie was mentored by a superb chef, Luciano Catalinotto, from St. John’s Hotel in Solihull: please click here to read her account of her experiences: Meeting Luciano.doc
