County Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Mr Philip Wilson, joined Prep boys and girls in assembly this week to talk about the work of the Legion and this year’s Shoulder to Shoulder 2011 Appeal. The children learnt about why the poppy is the symbol of Remembrance, how they are made and how much money is collected every year.
Mr Wilson also informed the children about his own contribution to ‘Lest We Forget’ published by the History Press in 2011, containing his own chapter on The Cenotaph, which he said was very challenging to write!
Before Mr Wilson returned to Legion Headquarters, several members of Year 4 admirably demonstrated that they had learnt John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields and were able to recite it confidently.
