Pupils in Years 3 and 5 thoroughly enjoyed a visit on Thursday 30th June from English Civil War re-enactors, who were related to Maisie Powell in 5SH and to Freya Warner in 3RH. Year 5 girls have been studying the Tudors and Stuarts in their history lessons, so this really helped to deepen their understanding of the period.

The girls were fascinated by the accounts of life for Roundheads and Cavaliers of all ranks; and to hear about the role of women at that time. It was a brilliant way to bring the Civil War to life, particularly since the locally fought Battle of Edgehill was the opening battle of the war.

The re-enactors brought in a huge pile of authentic clothing and weaponry, including pikes and muskets, and the girls were able to try on clothes and to handle the armour and weapons, even the swords! There were lots of opportunities to participate and ask questions and the afternoon went by in a flash.

Our visitors put in a great deal of time and effort to make this an enjoyable experience for the girls, and we were all very grateful.
