Years 7 and 8 were treated to a fantastic evening of high drama and brilliant acting, singing and dancing on a visit to the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford to watch a performance of ‘Matilda’. The delightful innocence and brilliance of Matilda and her growing relationship with Miss Honey captivated everyone, while many drew back in their seats in horror when they first witnessed the truly terrifying spectacle of the mannish Miss Trunchbull. The physical education lesson was performed with enormous skill and enthusiasm and finished with amazing and powerful gymnastics on the part of Miss Trunchbull. The audience watched in horror as one of Miss Trunchbull’s victims was spun and flung out into the audience by her pigtails. Was the body that finally fell into the auditorium the real body of the child? The satisfying conclusion of the play when Miss Honey finally rescues Matilda from her truly awful parents, brought to an end an amazing evening at the theatre.
