Sixth Former Becky Deeming's report on the
house tennis competition follows:
Tuesday 12th July saw the return of the annual inter-house tennis competition. Competitors from Year 10 and the Sixth Form participated in the tournament. Two couples were elected to represent their house and each couple played three matches of seven games. The winning house was decided according to how many games each house had won overall. After a very competitive afternoon of tennis Holmes came in 4th place with a total of 6 games, Mirren came 3rd with 18 games and there was a tie for 1st place between Roddick and Sharman, both of which won 30 games. The draw led to a tie-break in which couple 1 from both houses played their very best to secure the trophy for their house. For the second year running Sharman house won the tennis competition, winning the tie break 7-3. It was an exciting afternoon with all girls thoroughly enjoying themselves as they participated and encouraged their fellow house members.
Meanwhile, house teams made up of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 battled to win the
house rounders competition. Congratulations to the winners,
Mirren house, who scored 36 rounders.
After an extremely close and exciting afternoon Mirren house was also victorious at Senior School Sports Day for the second year running. Laura Burlton in Year 10 was awarded the best individual performance on the day with a new record in the 1500m, smashing the old record by 9 seconds.
