On Thursday 7
th October students from all the art examination classes visited the Tate Modern in London. They had the opportunity to experience the critically acclaimed Gauguin exhibition, ‘Maker of Myth’. The exhibition was curated to take a fresh look at the work of Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) by focusing on myth, storytelling and the construction of narrative in his life and art. The girls were drawn to the defined outlines and bold colouring in the paintings that Gauguin produced when living in Tahiti. They then went to investigate other works of art in Tate’s permanent collection. The trip was a great success and students are now using their experience to assist with the development of their own ideas.
