KOGA celebrates its 100th birthday On July 2 2005 The Kingsley Old Girls’ Association celebrated its centenary. The celebration was marked with a service at Holy Trinity Church, with readings from many generations of old girls, from recent Head Girls Cassie Morris and Charlotte Dickson, to Mary Griffin, an old girl and former Head’s secretary, who gave a wonderfully reminiscent and amusing speech about Kingsley. Penny Birt, also an old girl and currently joint Chair of Governors of the school, did a lovely reading from the book A Dream Realised. The current school choir also sang during the service and of course we sang the Kingsley School hymn, Praise my Soul the King of Heaven. A collection was made at the church and the £488.80 collected was split between The Holy Trinity Organ Fund and the Pahamune Orphanage in Sri Lanka, a charity currently supported by the school. The service was followed by the AGM and a wonderful lunch at school prepared by Janet Savage and her team. There was a fabulous turnout of about 150 old girls, including two previous headmistresses, Miss Fairhurst and Miss Jones and current Headteacher Mrs Mannion Watson. There were three generations of the Scott family present and three generations of the Gosling family, which was wonderful to see. A fabulous cake was made by Janet for the occasion, which was cut by Miss Jones, who toasted the Old Girls’ Association and its future.
There have obviously been some huge changes to the school over the last century and many old girls had not been back for many years. After lunch people viewed the archives, which had photos, school uniforms, press clippings and much more from the past 100 years. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane. A magazine is sent out to all members each year; if anyone has any news for inclusion in the magazine’s news section we would love to hear from you. Please contact: |
