Biology Field Trip, June 06

The Year 9 biology field trip took place in Preston Montford during the last weekend in June. On arrival we counted the numbers of the insects and surveyed the ground to see what and how many types of plants grew in the grasslands and woodlands. In the evening we set out traps for the rodents living there. We were lucky and caught two voles!

The second day we went to Ashes Hollow. After a fairly long walk we were greeted by a beautiful view. Then we went pond dipping and caught all sorts of invertebrates and even a fish.

The third day we took a long walk up to the Devil’s Chair, where we surveyed the land. On the fourth and final day we went pond dipping again and we all managed to catch lots of newts and other sorts of invertebrates.

When it was time to leave everyone was sad, but we were looking forward to a good rest!
