Tudor Dance Afternoon

On Wednesday 11 October the Renaissance Dance Group visited
Kingsley Junior School to share an afternoon of dance with Year 5 girls. This was to complement their study of the Tudor period in history.

The afternoon began with the dance group demonstrating a number of Tudor dances, accompanied by very authentic Tudor musicians.

The dancers were dressed in full Tudor costume and we watched in awe as huge skirts twirled and farthingale hoops swayed. The girls were able to ask as many questions as they liked and they certainly took advantage of this.

The highlight of the afternoon was when we were all invited to join in some of the dances. We were shown how to step serenely around the room, holding ourselves erect and keeping time with the leader. It soon sorted out who knew their left from their right! The girls were much better than the teachers!
The afternoon culminated in the girls looking closely at the amazingly detailed Tudor dresses worn by the dancers and yet more questions were answered. A big thank you goes to Mrs Comer for organising the afternoon.
