A whistle-stop tour
U6 politics students visit the American museum in Bath. This little-known museum, housed in a delightful Georgian mansion on the hills above Bath, contains a chronological set of rooms. Each room is given a specific date and place and is arranged as it would have been at that time. All the furniture and objects come from or have been in America.

The U6 politics group enjoyed looking at the extensive and diverse collection of American ephemera and following the well-documented history of European exploration and settlement.

The grounds contain several recreations of American gardens, including Jefferson’s Mount Vernon and a Pullman rail car. The students were able to stand on the platform at the back of the carriage and experience the way politicians did a whistle-stop election tour in the days before air travel.

We also visited the University of Bath next door to the museum. The whole area looked fabulous in the warm autumn sunshine.
