Kingsley raises the fashion stakes

The Kingsley school enjoyed the glamour and glitz of the fashion world on Wednesday evening, 6 December.

Head Girls Katie Astin and Frances Chapman harnessed the modelling talents of Kingsley girls to support a very good cause – an orphanage in Sri Lanka that cares for the young victims of the terrible tsunami that caused such devastation to the region.

Generously supported by a range of local fashion outlets, the girls took to the catwalk in a range of stunning outfits ranging from the casual to the classic. Hats, jewellery and bridal gowns were all shown to advantage in the school hall.

There was plenty for the gentlemen, thanks to the modelling talents of some young men from Warwick School who gave up their time to support the charitable event. The Kingsley GCSE Textiles group also displayed their work. Kingsley staff bravely got in on the act, strutting their stuff in a range of stylish ensembles, and there was an entertaining guest appearance by former teacher Robert Eldridge.

Since the tsunami Kingsley has established strong links with the orphanage, Pahamune House, and it has been visited by the head teacher, Christine Mannion Watson, as well as some girls and their parents. The fashion show is one in a series of fund-raising events, and the orphanage has benefited to the tune of many thousands of pounds from the girls’ fund-raising efforts.

The evening raised over £1200 and joint organiser Frances commented, “It’s fantastic that we are able to improve the lives of children who have lost everything. It makes all the hard work organising the event so worthwhile.”

Fellow Head Girl Katie stressed how important the support of the local businesses had been. “We have had so much support from the fashion retailers locally that we were able to put on a really professional show. We’re very grateful to Dee Clarke Bridal, Felicity Hat Hire, New Look, Sara, Phase Eight, Principles, Richard Paul Menswear, Toft Alpacas, Status Menswear, Fabulous Jewellery, Coast, Joules and House of Fraser.”
