Year 4 Kingswood Trip

Year 4 girls describe their recent trip to Kingswood Activity Centre, 9 - 11 May 07.

We left Kingsley Junior School feeling very excited, yet a little anxious about what was in store for us at Kingswood. When we arrived a team leader, Rachel was waiting for us. We were put into class teams called the Zebras and Lobsters and our dormitories were named after us.

Our first activities were wall climbing and quad biking. Although some girls were rather nervous about wall climbing, we felt really proud of our achievement once we had conquered our nerves. We had to be properly kitted out for the quad biking activity: we wore knee pads, elbow pads, helmets, goggles, a safety belt and gloves. It was a very exciting experience and the steering was much easier than the go-karting we did later!

Going to sleep was an interesting experience for the teachers as they had to get us all into bed first! There was a lot of happy chatting but we finally fell asleep after a wonderful first day.

On Thursday, L2MJ did zip wire and L2RP enjoyed Nightline and then we swapped. Nightline was rather scary, but was also great fun and we ended up covered in mud from top to toe!

The zip wire proved a real challenge for some of us as we had to climb up three steep ladders. For many of us it was our favourite activity because it was the most frightening, yet gave us a real sense of achievement. We were actually very safe because our leader strapped us to the side. We watched each other racing down the zip wire with frozen faces and a variety of screams and shouts.

In the evening we had to have an indoor ‘camp fire’ because it was so wet. It was still really fun because we learned some great campfire songs and ate marshmallows and drank hot cocoa.

We had a fantastic time at Kingswood. A big thank you to Mrs Parkes, Mrs James and Mrs Raja for looking after us so well.
