Did you know that 3 February was National Potato Day?

To celebrate the event, Year 1 children made potato aliens, a perfect match with their current topic of Space. It soon became obvious that the children had some weird and wonderful ideas and by the end of the session, we had an array of colourful creations: some with two heads, some with two bodies, some with three eyes and all looking fantastic.

Clara and Gemma decided to use pipe cleaners to give their aliens the Mohican look, while Jenna gave her alien a haircut, trimming his shiny tinsel into shape! Isla gave her alien the studded look by pushing in a host of split pins and Georgia went for the feathered look.

It was a great activity and the children couldn’t wait to take their new potato friends home – although they were reminded that boiling, mashing or chipping them was inadvisable!
