It's a dog's life

As part of their topic Helping Hands, Reception children were visited recently by Sam Fox, a veterinary nurse from the Feldon Veterinary Centre.

Sam talked to the children about micro-chipping pets, so that they can be returned to their owners if they get lost.

The children all had a turn at using a special scanner to detect the chip inside Barney the soft toy dog.

We learned that like us, dogs need to keep their teeth clean and we practised using a dog toothbrush.

Sam brought a stethoscope with her and we had fun trying to listen to our hearts beating.

We helped to bandage Barney’s paw and were delighted to be given lots of bandages, plastic syringes, masks and hats for our role plays.
