The Reception class recently visited Trees Are Green, the Warwick based home of CREATES - the creative recycling enviro-arts training and education service.
The children were looked after very well by Sandra, who helped them to understand the importance of re-using and recycling rubbish, where possible, instead of throwing it away. There were some lovely activities, such as making smiley faces out of things people have thrown away, weaving material into a uninteresting plastic frame to make it look colourful and attractive, and making a clock from an old CD. Sandra showed us a variety of things which had been made from recycled rubbish, such as pencils made out of old CD cases, a mouse mat made out of an old car tyre, a pair of earrings made out of some telephone wire and rulers which were once polystyrene cups.

We now know how important it is to recycle, simply because we are running out of places to bury our rubbish. Since we have come back to school we have started to recycle our plastic water bottles. We are also trying to make sure that we use both sides of a piece of paper when we are drawing, to help save our trees.
