Year 12 Geography Field Trip

As the end of term approached, Mrs Bailey and Mrs Watson looked forward to a quiet weekend away in Somerset. Alas, it was not to be - Year 12 Geographers joined them in the minibus. After a search for the minibus keys and a brief detour to Leek Wootton, the journey south to Nettlecombe Court began.

Our first activity started almost as soon as we arrived with a short walk to measure river characteristics at Woodford Meanders.

The peace and quiet of the countryside was soon shattered, not by the arrival of loud students but by Mrs Bailey inadvertently testing the depth of the water, assisted by Grace Kaye!

Day two took us to Taunton to carry out urban surveys and on the third day we travelled to Braunton Burrows to investigate the sand dunes.

The evenings were spent analysing the work of the day and bonding with students from other schools. Certain people seemed very keen to discuss their courses with the gentlemen from Monmouth School.

The weekend was memorable for a number of reasons: ruining the school camera, someone’s birthday; surprise guest arrivals and the uncharacteristic and slightly manic behaviour of the two newly elected Head Girls.

Thank you to the students for making the weekend so much fun and to Mrs Watson for her hard work and company.

J Bailey
