The Mystery of the Cornflower Two former pupils who joined Kingsley at the age of five in 1953 have brought a touch of mystery to our forthcoming anniversary.
Old Boys Alan Griffith and John Hill returned to launch a campaign to find out why Kingsley, which celebrates its 125th birthday next year, has a cornflower as its emblem.
Alan, a director with construction consultants Cyril Sweett and chairman of the West Midlands Developers’ Alliance, went on to be a Kingsley governor for five years. His sister Phillipa was also a pupil at the school.
John, a printer who used to run his family firm Charles Hill in Warwick, was at school with his sister Susan, who went through to the Sixth Form. His niece Ali gained three A grades at A level at Kingsley to win a place at Cardiff University, before gaining a job with Cadbury Schweppes.
Alan Griffith said: “I had a happy time at Kingsley. It was a caring place and the teachers provided a lot of personal attention – and I’m sure that’s still the case.”
John Hill added: “I never felt overwhelmed by being surrounded by so many girls and I can still remember the first crush I experienced at the age of five!"
Young Guy was less forthcoming, but he will no doubt have equally happy memories of Kingsley in the years to come!
