Autumn Treasure Hunt

Even a blustery, drizzly day didn’t stop the Reception children going on their autumn treasure hunt, along the towpath beside Hatton Locks.  We found hawthorn and rosehip berries, sticky seeds and acorns. We picked blackberries and apples, which we used to make a delicious crumble when we got back to school.

The children also took part in the Woodland Trust's ‘Ancient Tree Hunt’.  We found an old oak tree and measured it in ‘hugs’: our tree was 3 adult hugs or 7 children’s hugs around its trunk or 514 cm.  We collected acorns from beneath the tree and are going to plant them, so that we can grow an ancient oak tree of our own!  We have registered the tree we found on the Woodland Trust website, so that other people can visit it.  No trip to the canal would be complete without feeding the ducks, who didn’t seem to mind the wet weather - mind you, neither did we!
