Investigations at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry
Four Year 8 pupils: Cecilia, Isabella, Clara and Alice, were selected to participate the Salter's Festival of Chemistry, which was held at the University of Birmingham on the 4th April.
The event involved two scientific investigations. The first of these was a 'who done it' exercise, in which the girls carried out a series of exercises to find out who committed a crime. In the second task the team had to investigate the optimum quantities of compounds required to lower the temperature of a mixture to 10.5 degrees in one minute.
The girls showed fantastic problem solving skills with the tasks given and worked wonderfully as a team, both with having ideas and listening to others. They also demonstrated a great enthusiasm and engagement with the challenges set. The girls' excellent teamwork skills and mature scientific approach culminated in them being awarded second prize for the second investigation task.
The pupils were delighted to have won a prize and thoroughly enjoyed the day, with a suggestion that everyone in the school should have the chance to have a day like this every year!
