Junior School String Project
Having been unable to participate in the recent Junior School Music in Progress concert due to a prior engagement, (a very happy birthday to Jenna and Georgia!), the girls involved in the Key Stage 1 String Project were able to perform in assembly and show us just how hard they have been working since September. None of them allowed the ominous date - Friday 13th - to daunt them!
The String Project gives younger girls an opportunity to try out a new instrument in a fun way, allowing them to decide if they want to carry on learning the instrument if they show an aptitude for it. Many of the girls only started to play the violin in September, at the age of 5, and have a shared lesson once a week with the wonderful Mrs Walton. I am told that future prodigies have to start early!

All the Junior School girls and staff plus the musicians’ parents were invited to the Friday assembly; and what a treat they had in store! A quick warm up was followed by a group piece, each child contributing to a super overall performance. Following this we heard solo pieces from Isla Grant (6) on her cello and Annabel Suckling (also 6) on her violin. Isla showed herself to be a true performer, bowing and bowing (both pronunciations) with aplomb. Annabel, who currently has lessons outside school, declared herself to be ‘a bit nervous’ but overcame her nerves to play magnificently.

Well done girls, a super performance by all of you. We look forward to many more equally enjoyable events in the future.
